Lisa created a position at Olmsted Medical Center based around Compliance, starting with HIPAA Privacy and Security auditing and moving on to forming a team and process in preparing for RAC audits.

  • Workflow and Operational Improvements

In many of the eight facilities Lisa has been the director of supervisor of, there were workflow and operational improvements that needed to be made. I learned about this from my mentor at Dakota Medical Center in Fargo, ND where we restructured the department and had two FTEs responsible for analysis, the coders were trained and were coding, and the ER coding was brought into the department. I then took this skill of restructuring/reorganizing FTEs to function at their utmost capability to other organizations and made necessary changes.

We also started to consolidate hospital and clinic coding staff at Carrington Health Center in Carrington, ND and Franciscan Skemp Healthcare in LaCrosse, WI.

We also had a team that was setting up the process of Home Coding at Franciscan Skemp Healthcare in LaCrosse, WI.

We also were bringing in all external data reporting functions into the Health Information Management Department at Upland Hills Health in Dodgeville, WI.

  • Chargemaster Review

Lisa was involved in chargemaster review at Carrington Health Center in Carrington, ND and was then sent to a three day chargemaster training seminar sponsored by Catholic Health Initiatives. I later took this skill and revised the chargemaster at Franciscan Skemp Healthcare in LaCrosse, WI prior to the implementation of APCs.

  • EMR Implementation

Lisa was involved on the team to select, purchase and implement the Meditech software system at Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital in Decorah, IA. I was also involved in implementing the electronic signature module of the electronic medical record through the HMS software system at Upland Hills Health in Dodgeville, WI. We also implemented the electronic signature module within the Med3000 software at Olmsted Medical Center in Rochester, MN. I also was on the EMR team and assisted in conceptualizing the GE Centricity Software for Crescent Community Health Center, in Dubuque, IA. Most recently, I was involved in implementation of the HMS system for electronic medical records at Palestine Medical Center in Palestine, TX, Andalusia Regional Hospital in Andalusia, AL, and Los Alamos Medical Center in Los Alamos, NM.

  • Software Planning and Implementation

Lisa was involved in other software planning and implementation. At Carrington Health Center we implemented the Dictaphone dictation system to move us to electronic dictation from the handheld devices and tapes. At Franciscan Skemp Healthcare in LaCrosse, WI, we implemented the Medicus encoding system. We implemented the Dictaphone dictation system at Upland Hills Health in Dodgeville, WI. We also implemented the ComplyTrack/MediRegs software to assist with compliance and monitoring. I played an integral role in the purchase, set-up, training and implementation of eScription (computer aided medical transcription) transcription software for the 25 transcriptionists who were mostly home-based transcriptionists.

  • Strategic Planning

I was involved in strategic planning sessions for our organizations as part of the management team, most recently at Upland Hills Health in Dodgeville, WI.
